Our 9th annual Back-to-School with Heads Held High event was a complete success, thanks primarily to our wonderful volunteers, donors and sponsors! 2,200 school bags were filled up and given to their new owners; children from underprivileged families in Montreal, on the 16th and 17th of August. There was such a need, we had to place another 200 children's names on a waiting list!
Over these two days, employees and volunteers were dressed up in costumes from the 1920's and 30's. Children ran around eagerly discovering what it might have been like in those days, learning to write with a feather pen, use a slate, swing dance, etc… a new experience for most, without a doubt!
As promised, there were a few fun surprises as well! Montreal Alouettes football players Anwar Stewart, Brian Bratton, Mark Estelle, Avon Cobourne and mascot Touché met the children, took pictures and signed autographs while they helped out with the distribution. Marguerite Blais, the Quebec Liberal Minister responsible for Seniors and Deputy of Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne, got a dance lesson from the Swinging Air Force.
We would like to thank our major partners La Fondation Marcelle et Jean Coutu, La Presse, the Aldo Group, and our loyal sponsors, donors, volunteers and employees who helped make this event so special!
