A Stirring Thanksgiving Dinner at Welcome Hall Mission's Shelter

The air was filled with excitement as each player shared what they were most thankful for, offering encouragement and inspiration to the 250 men and women in attendance, most of whom are homeless.

After such a monumental game where Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo broke the all-time passing yards record, it was even more touching that he and nine of his teammates opted to spend the evening at our Men's Mission, serving turkey dinner, with a side of hope!

Cyril Morgan, CEO / Executive Director of Welcome Hall Mission, says the presence of the Montreal Alouettes players helps the Mission on so many levels. "Most importantly, it draws in some homeless men who wouldn't ordinarily come here. Sure, we have 145 emergency beds and give them food and toiletries, but what we really want to do is help get them off the streets for good." Welcome Hall Mission is at the leading edge of initiatives addressing the issue of homelessness. "We're trying to show the government that the real work happens with the 40 transitional beds and 50 studio apartments as part of our rehabilitation and reinsertion programs. That's how we're helping change lives."
