Montreal, Wednesday, August 20th 2008 – Welcome Hall Mission's 7th annual Back-to-School event was a real crowd pleaser this year. Over 4,000 people came through the doors of the Mission - of which 2,000 were children filled with anticipation at the thought of receiving a school bag filled with School Board required supplies for the year. Dictionaries, calculators, spiral notebooks, pens, paper, markers all the way to brand new running shoes and winter boots, and T-Shirts for a total value of 150,000$ were distributed to families in need in the greater Montreal area.
Held over a two-day period in a festive atmosphere with games, inflatable structures, music and face painting, the event also gave many parents the chance to rekindle some childhood memories with Ms. Claire Pimparé as guest of honor. Ms Pimparé is well known for her role as Passe-Carreau in the hit TV series of the 80's and 90's, "Passe Partout". Having completed her book "Ces parents que tout enfant est en droit d'avoir", which is due for release on October 13, 2009 (Publisher: Un monde différent), Ms. Pimparé is proud to champion those children to whom life has dealt a poor hand.
With its 116 years of experience as charitable organization fighting against social exclusion, homelessness and poverty, Welcome Hall Mission believes that education is a key to reverse the social afflictions of the less privileged. It is thanks to the support of the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation that has provided 2,000 back packs, the Aldo Group that has given over 2,000 pairs of new shoes, La Presse a strong supporter of the Welcome Hall Mission, and of course our loyal donors that this major distribution of school supplies has been made possible. Thank you.
